Pinole, CA Police shoot and kill 20 year old man

PINOLE (KRON) -- A 20-year old man is dead after a confrontation with Pinole police.
Authorities say Michael "Mickey" Ray Welch was near the corner of Pinole Valley Road and Brandt Street in Pinole when police officers tried to contact him. Investigators say the stop turned violent. Officials confirm the officers shot Welch. He was later pronounced dead at the scene by the Pinole Fire Department.
An investigation into the shooting is now underway. Authorities say they're using a Contra Costa County protocol for looking into officer-involved shootings.
